Gone through Cellphone Tower Radiation Article.
Real wealth of information in simple terms.
A small querry :
Cellphone adjusts output power based on tower distance. How?

1. Open loop .. cellphone blindly increase output if Rx signal is weakened

OR

2. Does cellphone transmit a beacon and tower measures it and gives a feedback to cellphone to control the output?

Second scenario seems to be practically impossible because the tower will have to have a complex processing to identify each phone.

Actually the question has come to mind because someone has suggested a simple ( !! ) solution of reducing the tower output to overcome Radiation threat.

The cell tower tells the mobile phone what power level to output (max power to min), it is part of the handshake.

What radiation threat are you referring to?

Thanks Admin.

That means the tower sends the requirement of TX level to each phone.

There are several protests ( I have no idea of US , but in India ) to reduce the Tx power from towers to reduce the radiation risk for people residing nearby.

I was under the impression that if tower transmits less power then the Cellphone will assume that the tower is far off and will transmit more power ( as per some sort of look up table ) which is more severe radiation exposure than the received tower signal.

Anyway thanks again for the clarification.
