What are the effects on a VHF monopole antenna mounted on a curved ground plane, such as the fuselage of an aircraft? How does it distort the radiation pattern?

depends on the radius of curvature relative to the wavelength

if curvature is small, not much
if curvature is large, it will radiate closer to a dipole
