|
|
My questions here are regarding antenna array, RF chains, antenna elements, antenna gain.
I will provide an example to illustrate question. Assuming we have 4 RF chains (transceivers) and a uniform linear antenna array of 256 antenna elements. My questions are
1) is the antenna gain equal to 10log(256) or 10log(4) dB
2) what is the purpose of packing antenna elements, for example why is it better to have 256 and not 8 ?
I think I am confused between antenna elements and RF chains and the purpose of antenna elements.
Thanks, looking forward for your answers. |

Antenna gain depends on the number of elements (really how large your antenna array is), not the number of RF chains. You get increased gain by increasing the net size of your antenna, not by increasing the number of RF chains.
Basically, number of RF chains has nothing to do with antenna gain. |
