Hi,
I'm new to this site but maybe someone could give some advise. I am looking to design a H-POL Omni antenna, operating at 1GHz.
A slot antenna is an option but does anyone have links to some design formulas to designing a slot and feed at this freq?
Are there any other options when it comes to H-POL omni's?
thanks,
Penny |

Hi Penny -
A vertically oriented slot will produce horizontal polarization. It should be roughly a half-wavelength long and the desired frequency. The width should be thin, less than lambda/10. It should be fed across the slot, roughly one-third of the length from either end. The feed should have the negative terminal attached to one side of the slot, and the positive terminal connected directly across the gap. The best feed point depends on the size of the ground plane, the width, and what is around the slot. This can rapidly be found experimentally.
For the design of slots, see:

Other horizontally polarized antennas that are potentially omnidirectional:
-A horizontal dipole antenna
-A small loop antenna, where the loop plane defines the plane of the H-fields
-An Inverted F-Antenna (IFA)
