Hi all,
I need some advice please.
I am looking into making an OMNIDirectional antenna to use on a Wireless AP , the higher the gain the better.
Trevor Marshall's Slotted Waveguide looks promising but I am enable to find rectangular tubing - but circluar tubes are in abundance.
I can not find any references as to how to build Cirular waveguide
any ideas/suggestions please
thanks |

Slotted waveguides are good for high frequencies and carrying a lot of power:http://www.antenna-theory.com/antennas/aperture/slottedWaveguide.php
Now, in your case, a wireless router type link I assume (what frequency? wifi?) this probably isn't a great antenna.
You mention you want omnidirectionality - this means you want energy going in a lot of directions equally. Then you mention you want high gain - this means that you want the antenna to be very directive. So before it is even worth answering your question, which is more important: high directionality or a broad/omnidirectional radiation pattern? They are competing goals. |

BigSteve,
thank you for taking time to answer - probably I am looking for a compromise between all the above.
It is a simple setup - the antenna is for an AP perched on top of a hill over looking villagers spread over less than a mile.
the AP I have is capable of delivering up to 30dbm (which is legal where I am).
I am happy to consider another design as long as it is simple and cheap to make.
