|
|
Greetings!
I am trying to gauge the feasibility of using NFC or something similar to obtain real-time stats for athletes, both in practice and competition. After researching, I believe the solution may lie in NFC technology.
Let's take American Football or Soccer.
Q. Is it possible using NFC to keep track of multiple players movements, by placing Antennas beneath the Surface of a Field and in the soles of each players shoes (different freq.), and transmit data in real time data to chart things like speed and position with a high degree of accuracy?
I realize there are many factors to consider. I am merely, at this stage, trying to determine, if I am on the right track. Or, if I am way off and should seek a different solution?
Thanks, for any help or insight in this matter! |

NFC antennas might work if they were about 1 cm or less than 0.5" deep in the field. They would all have to be the same frequency though, but the chips in the shoes would be able to record the information. If you wanted the data in real time, then there would also need to be a wifi link in the shoes to transmit this data back to some router.
It is probably feasible but there would be a lot of infrastructure involved. Apple/Nike+ has put a bluetooth antenna in shoes for continuous monitoring, but this is not the accuracy you want.
Basically the shoes would also need a small battery, and would continuously ping for information, and ideally the nearest nfc antenna in the field would respond witht he location, and the chip in the shoes would record the time and location. So you'd have a lot of shoe and field design. |
