I am trying to design a USB dongle for WiFi application.
But the gain of my antenna is about 1.5dBi.

Question 1:
Is the antenna gain too low comparing to other WiFi USB dongle?

In order to increase the antenna gain, I have added a reflector behind the antenna and the gain reaches about 5.6 dBi. Of course, the radiation pattern is no longer omni-directional any more.

3dB vertical beamwidth : 66 degree
3dB horizontal beamwidth : 82 degree

Question 2:
Are there any market value for the directional usb dongle?
Is it a good idea to design a directional USB dongle?

You want a low gain for a wifi antenna, because you don't know where the signal will be coming from. I don't think a high gain wifi antenna would be desirable unless you are using a static (fixed) link position, and if so, it isn't mobile, so why not use ethernet?

The indoor wifi base station is always installed at the roof top. If the radiation beams is pointing upward, I think that it is still fine. And also, the directional usb dongle still can get the signal even the main beam is not pointing to the base station due to the multiple reflection.
