In the theory of arrays an example is given of a 5 element array and the weights of each element is calculated to steer the array 45 degrees.
The mentioned weights have to be applied to each antennas radiation.

The questions may sound silly, but please bear with a newbie on antennas.

Q1. How can this be done in momentum?
Q2. Is it possible to change the port excitation phase to steer the array?

A1. What do you mean by momentum in regards to arrays?
A2. Yes - if you change the phases on the antennas, you can steer the array (change the direction of peak radiation).

Thanks for the quick reply:

A1. My apologies,I should have been clearer, I was referring to ADS momentum, the simulation tool.

Is there a source that explains a step by step procedure of designing a dipole array for beam steering?

I don't know much about momentum, sorry.

The dipole array should simply be setup to have an inter-element spacing of one half wavelength at the center frequency of interest (or maybe 0.75 wavelengths, somewhere in there).

Then just take the time to understand the tutorial here:

The weights for steering are pretty simple so it should be no problem.
