hello...
Balanis said"...

If W (larger) >L (longer) >h, the dominant mode is the TMx 001 whose resonant frequency is given by (V0/2W*sqrt( ع_r)) ..." chapter 14 /cavity model page 831.

V0:is the speed of light infree-space

ع_r:permitivity

when i choose L=lambda/2 , and W>L , so resonant frequency of the dominant mode will be a function of the length L , because L=lambda/2 , and not fucntion of W (larger) ...What do you think?

thank u very much

really, it escapes me!!! (exuse my english)
in balanis chapter 14 , page 820 , and in example (14.1)
he propose a patch antenna with (h=1,588 mm , ep_r=2,2 and fr=10GHz)
he calcule the parameter of this antenna
he found
W(width) > L (longer) but
he calcule L (longer) with forumulas (lambda/2)
and no with
width (W) !!
can you explain me ?
thank u

Balanis uses the cavity model to understand the patch antenna radiation. I don't think it is very intuitive.

Hence, I'm not interested in what Balanis' book says.

If you can't explain something intuitively, you don't understand it. Think about it until you have your own explanation or read a different book.
