I'm looking at trying to match a folded dipole (Zo = 4 * 73 Ohms = 292 Ohms) using a 4:1 balun consisting of a length of coax which is electrical a half wave. The balun should give me an unbalanced signal of 73 Ohms.
Should the impedance of the coax used for the 4:1 balan be 73 Ohms, 292 Ohms (hard/impossible to get). Will 50 Ohms be acceptable?
Would it be possible to use 60 Ohm coax to both transform the impedance to 50 Ohms and to create the balun (sqrt(50*73)=60)? I'm guessing this one is not possible, as there's no quarter wave matching transformer.
Any ideas how best to transform a balanced folded dipole of impedance 292 Ohms down to 50 Ohm unblanaced?
