 Posted: Mon Aug 22, 2016 7:23 am    Post subject: Antenna complex radiation pattern A basic question regarding the interpretation of measured antenna radiation pattern data. Usually the measured antenna radiation pattern data includes the Phi , Theta angles and Ephi_amplitude, Etheta_amplitude and their corresponding phases for each Phi and Theta angles. When we refer to complex antenna pattern ( that we usually plot in 3D spherical coordinates) are we meaning the Etotal = Ephi(complex) + Etheta(complex), where Ephi(complex) = Ephi_amplitude*exp(j*Ephi_phase)? or something else? I am planning to use the measured antenna pattern data in a channel emulator that try totake the effect of the antenna into account, so I want to use the given data regarding the pattern correctly. Thank you for your help

 Posted: Thu Aug 25, 2016 12:25 am    Post subject: If a radiation pattern is given with no description, then it is a measure of Etotal = sqrt( Ephi^2 + Etheta^2 ), where Ephi and Etheta are linear units (not in dB) If you want an accurate channel model that fully takes into account polarization and phase for each angle, you do have to use Ephi_complex and Etheta_complex

Can you please illustrate what you meant by 'if radiation pattern is given with no description' For instance in my case i know that the measurement was for a comercial mobile phone and the measurement data i have include : Phi Theta E(Phi). Real part E(Phi). Imaginary part E(Theta). Real part E(Theta). Imaginary part E Total. dB E Total. Lin Gain Phi. dB Gain Phi. Lin Gain Theta. dB Gain Theta. Lin Gain . dB Gain . Lin E(Phi) . Amp lin E(Theta) . Amp lin E(Phi) . Amp dB E(Theta) . Amp dB E(Phi) . Phase E(Theta) . Phase from these data i can ofcourse easily form the complex pattern.
