if you have a receive diversity setup with 2 antennas, and the first can receive a signal to -100dbm and the second antenna (diversity) can read a signal also to -100dbm, then the combined receive would be -103dbm.
but what if the first antenna can receive -100dbm and the second antenna can receive -103dbm, now this is a problem, both antennas should be within 1db of each other? why is 3db delta bad? |

The combined sensitivity drops by 3 dB only if the signals are coherently combined, by the way.
There is no requirement that sensitivities need to be within 1 dB of each other. The lesser antenna just get less effective the farther the delta gets |
