I want to design a pol. reconfig patch antenna @2.4GHz.
1.Is it necessary to have a square patch for obtaining circular polarization?
2. Is it necessary to give coaxial feed?
3. I havent obtained circular polarization by cutting the opposite corners of the rectangular patch. what may be the reason?
Somebody please give an appropriate solution ... |

There are many ways to get circular polarization. The goal is to have two orthogonal fields radiating, at 90 degrees out of phase.
If you feed a square patch along the diagonal, you will end up with two orthogonal fields (say Vertical and Hortizontal). However, they will be in phase, which doesn't produce circular polarization. You'll need to optimize the feed to get one of the modes out of phase with the other. This requires some thought.
How you feed the antenna doesn't really matter, it can be coaxial feed from underneath, or transmission line directly to the patch. |
