I'm interested in reducing mutual coupling between elements in a set of patch antennas. I've stumbled on several academic papers that suggest this can be accomplished by fabricating a "high impedance surface" either on the same layer as the patches, or on a lower layer of a multi-layer structure. Unfortunately most of the literature seems to be from the past 10-15 years and it's behind various journals' paywalls. I will plan on a trip to a university library in the near future, but until then:
1. does this make sense?
2. are there other resources on line that I should be aware of?
